Your bedroom, your sanctuary

There is one place in your house where you can find peace and experience passion, and where unfiltered emotions are allowed to surface: the bedroom. This intimate room is much more than the name suggests. In order to create the right atmosphere in your bedroom, it’s important to consider what you want your bedroom to represent. Warmth, lust, love, and passion, or peace and stability? In this article, you will discover what type of bedroom atmosphere is the right choice for you and how you can create it!

What does your bedroom make you feel?

We have been aware of the fact that surroudings influence atmosphere for centuries. Still, we as humans usually don’t do much with that information, especially when it comes to the bedroom. Many bedrooms are fairly sober and functional. It’s time to think about what you want your bedroom to look like. If your bedroom is decorated in your own style and according to your own taste, it unconsciously evokes certain moods and feelings everytime you spend time there.

“The atmosphere in your bedroom influences your emotions”.

Simple elements like colour, light, and decorations enhance the ambience in your bedroom immediately. They help you guide your senses and enhance certain emotions. For example, red represents passion and energy. So, if you want to feel energetic and sexy, you now know what colour to buy 😉

Colour symbolism

Colours and emotions are connected to each other. Despite the fact that science confirms that colours evoke emotions, it still largely depends on your own taste and experience. Still, it’s good to keep in mind what each colour represents.

  • Red = emotion, passion, energy
  • Orange = adventurous, creative, independent
  • Yellow = enthousiasm, positivity, spontaneity
  • Green = security, balance, harmony
  • Blue = self-expression, trust, loyalty
  • Purple/pink = compassion, spirituality, sensitivity
  • Brown = natural, comfort, stability
  • Grey = conservative, neutral, still
  • Black = power, control, authority

Decor

Your bedroom deserves an intimate and warm ambience. That makes it much easier to get in the right mood. What style your bedroom should be decorated in depends on your personal taste. However, there are a couple of universal ‘rules’ that you should keep in mind.

“A bedroom that is full of stuff creates a suffocating feeling”.

It’s important not to fill your bedroom to the brim with furniture and decorations. A packed room results in an anxiety-inducing ambience. It’s better to be subtle when it comes to bedroom decor. A nice rug, elegant bedding, a painting, and a couple of plants are always great options.

Light

Light does wonders when it comes to ambience. It creates peace, intimacy, and romance. Imagine you’re walking into a bedroom that is lit by subtle small lights. The warm light subtly shines on the walls. This enhances the ambience much more than a bright ceiling light that lights the whole bedroom could ever do. A couple of nightlights or mood lights will suffice in this case. If you really want to go all the way, then you need a light dimmer. This allows you to control the brightness of every light in the room, so you can set up everything to you personal preference. If you’re more of a traditional type of person, you can also light the room with candles. However, always make sure you don’t place them anywhere near curtains of blankets.

Scent

You probably recognise this situation: you walk into a bedroom and the first thing you notice in the pungeant smell. There’s practically no bigger turn-off than that. If it’s your bedroom that doesn’t smell good, it’s not a great situation for you either. Luckily, the solution is fairly simple. Make sure the floor is clean, there is fresh bedding on the bed, and the room is ventilated well. Lighting one or two scented massage candles is a great option as well.

Make sure that your candle or fragrance diffuser doesn’t spread a scent that is too overwhelming. Scents should be subtle. If, despite all your best efforts, there is still a strange smell in your bedroom, you might want to consider having your room inspected by a building technician. It’s possible that there is moisture or mold growth in your bedroom.

Discover and explore

Did you transform your bedroom into your personal sanctuary? Are you happy with the ambience? Then it’s time to spend some time in your bedroom and discover what this new atmosphere does to your body and mind. Take your time to get used to your new surroudings and let it all soak in.

“Take plenty of time to soak in the new look of your bedroom.”

An atmospheric and passionate bedroom makes you feel even more at home and provides a feeling of creativity and strength. Enjoy your new space and, even more important, enjoy yourself.
