What is pegging and how do I do it right?
It’s a trend: people are becoming more sexually adventurous. That’s why we’re dedicating this article to a topic you may have never thought about or perhaps already do on a regular basis: pegging. For the beginners among us, we explain what pegging is and how to do it.
What is pegging?
Pegging is when a woman penetrates her male partner anally. She does this by wearing a strap-on harness fitted with a dildo. It is a misconception that anal stimulation or penetration is only for gay men. Heterosexual men also enjoy it. This is mainly because pegging stimulates the prostate. This is one of the most sensitive areas in the man’s body and is only accessible through the anus.
Anal penetration by a woman
Research by Cosmopolitan shows that many men are ashamed of their desire to try to this out, because being penetrated is still seen as something only gay men do. As a result, it appears that most men who let themselves be pegged only do so with a long-term partner whom they trust. As we say so often, communication is extremely important in a relationship, also when it comes to sex. It’s nice to be able to talk openly about your feelings. And if your lover’s request for penetration scares you, don’t forget that pegging can be very sensual for women too. You see your man enjoying himself, while you yourself are suddenly the one in control of each thrust. In addition, there are also double strap-on dildos that will stimulate both of you.
What do you need for pegging?
You need four things for pegging: a strap-on harness, a dildo, enough lube, and a willing partner.
Strap-on harness
A strap-on is a kind of harness that you wear around your waist and legs. Strap-ons come in all kinds: there are strap-on harnesses with thin straps, but also briefs that contain a hole for the dildo. You also have a choice in terms of material. There are leather strap-ons, but there are also some made of nylon, polyester or PVC. Some have a lining to make it feel more comfortable against your skin. Most strap-ons work for most dildos up to an average circumference of about 56 millimeters (2.2 inches). The dildo is held in place by a suction cup or a ring.

Strap-on dildo
When you buy a strap-on harness, a dildo is often already included. But it is also possible to buy a separate dildo. This way you can switch it up in terms of function, design, or format. For example, you could choose an anal dildo to stimulate the man’s prostate. You can recognize these by the curved shape with a round glans. But lovers of dildos that are smooth or have glitter will enjoy it, too.
Vibrating dildo
Do you want to enjoy vibrations in addition to penetration? Then choose to use a vibrating dildo. This way you can stimulate your partner even better.
Double strap-on dildo
With a double strap-on dildo, not only does will the man enjoy penetration, but the woman, too. A double dildo comes with a smaller dildo at the other end that you can insert into yourself; this way, both partners are stimulated at the same time. These kinds of dildos also come in all kinds of different variants. The modern strapless double dildo stays in place because you have it inside you, too. This is also a wonderful toy for female couples to use either anally or vaginally. Within the double strap-on category there are also ones with straps and others that vibrate if that is your preference.
Hollow strap-ons
Men can also wear a strap-on. These are hollow ones that fit around the penis like a kind of sleeve. A hollow strap-on is mainly used to thicken and lengthen the penis. This can be exciting for both the wearer and the recipient. It can also help men who have erection problems.
Lubricant
Before penetrating your partner, you should realize that an anus has no glands that secrete fluid. So it cannot get wet like a vagina. It is therefore important to use (a lot of) lubricant. It not only helps keep the penetration from hurting, but also prevents tears in the thin lining of the anus. Do you use a silicone dildo? Then water-based lubricant is the one to use. Silicone-based lubricant can damage your sex toy.

Pegging for beginners: tips
Before you start pegging, it is wise to slowly get acquainted with anal sex. And there are more things to keep in mind. Read our pegging tips for beginners:
- If you have never done butt play, you should know that you shouldn’t just pop the dildo straight in. Start with some anal foreplay. You can do this by first massaging the anus with your fingers (and enough lubricant) and sliding your fingertip in. This will stretch the anus some. Of course, you can also use a butt plug starter set for this.
- Once you are used to anal play, you can go ahead and try the dildo for the first time. Start small and/or narrow. You can always choose to use a bigger dildo later on if you feel comfortable with that. Don’t forget the lubricant!
- Respect each other’s boundaries and agree on a safe word to use if necessary. The man is the one who is very vulnerable in this situation. If you like, agree on a safe word. In any case, stop the penetration immediately if he tells you to.
- It is wise to only use your sex toy on one person. Do you have multiple sex partners and want to use your toy with them all? Then place a condom around the dildo. This way you can be sure that you’re not transmitting STDs.
- Clean your sex toy well after use so that it can be used again the next time.
