Must-see TV shows about sex and relationships

TV shows about sex and relationships

TV shows about sex and relationships are everywhere. From TV shows that are all about sex to shows where sex plays a small, but important part. Below is a list of our favourite shows about sex and relationships.

You Me Her

You Me Her is about married couple Emma and Jack who lead a very ordinary life in a suburb of Portland, Oregon. Their sex drive is low, because they’re trying to get pregnant. To spice up their sex life, they decide to ask Izzy for help, who is a younger student and part-time escort. It doesn’t take long for both Jack and Emma to develop feelings for Izzy and Izzy for them. This TV show puts a spotlight on the different aspects of polyamory. How will Izzy deal with Jack and Emma trying to get pregnant for example?

Élite

The Spanish Netflix show Élite is about the students of an exclusive private school in Spain. The characters have intense sex with each other, which they visibly enjoy. The most exciting moment? The first time Carla and Polo convince Christian to be a part of their relationship. There are also many sweet moments in the show, mostly thanks to the gay couple Omander (Ander and Omar).

Unicornland

Unicornland is a web series about Annie. She is recently divorced and decides to explore her sexuality by dating couples. Every episode revolves around a date, meeting, or sex party. Watch the web series here.

Sex Education

Otis knows a lot about sex, because his mother is a sex therapist. He’s sixteen, but he doesn’t have any sexual experiences himself yet. His friend convinces him to make some extra money by giving his fellow students advice about sex. The TV show follows his sexual development and those of his fellow students at his school in England. Because of the original approach to the topic, this show is a must-watch when it comes to TV shows about sex. Sex Education is available to watch on Netflix.

Sex and the City

Although this HBO TV show ended some time ago, Sex and the City has to be on this list. Sex and the City was an incredibly popular TV show about writer and columnist Carrie Bradshaw and her friends. Charlotte is organised and reliable, Samatha is the slightly older and sex-obsessed friend, and Miranda is an ambitious, cold career woman. The hottest scenes include Samantha, who enjoys experimenting together with her gorgeous toy boy Smith Jerrod.

Friends From College

This comedy show follows a couple of forty-somethings who have been friends since their school days and find themselves in various kinds of relatable relationship problems. For example, two of the main characters have an affair together. Unfortunately, this Netflix Original was cancelled after the second series.

Scandal

Scandal is about fixer Olivia Pope, who is one of the confidants of president Fitzgerald (Fitz) Grant. And that’s not all: she’s also his lover. The chemistry between the two main characters is undeniable, in contrast to the relationship between Fitz and his first lady Mellie.

The Affair

Like Scandal, this TV show revolves around an affair. Writer Noah, father of four children, and the much younger waitress Alison have a secret relationship. What is unique about this TV show is its point of view. The story is told through the perspective of both Noah and Alison. In the second and third series, the perspectives of other characters are also added to the mix. In total, The Affair consists of five series, so there’s enough material to keep your eyes locked on the screen for a while.

Big Love

Big Love is an HBO show about a Mormon polyamorous family. Bill is married to Barb, Nicolette, and Margene. To keep their illegal lifestyle hidden from the rest of the world, they make everyone believe only Bill and Barb are married. What the rest of the world doesn’t know is that their houses are all connected. Big Love shows how complicated a polygamous relationship can be.

Sister Wives

Sister Wives is a reality show on TLC about the life of polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives Meri, Christine, Janelle, and Robyn, and their 18(!) children. Among other things, the TV show features Kody meeting Robyn and making her his fourth wive, problems with the law, the insecurity of the wives, and the arguments between Kody and his only legal wive, Meri. It’s like Big Love, but in real life.

Vampire Diaries

I can hear you think: a teenage show about vampires, really? Believe me when I say that this TV show contains some hot scenes. This is largely because of Ian Somerhalder. Somerhalder plays the role of sexy bad boy Damon Salvatore who has his eye on Elena, his brother Stefan’s girlfriend.

Because the show is about teenage students, hormones fly everywhere. Add the fact that every vampire’s emotions are heightened, which means that every look and touch provides a steamy scene. The hottest scene is with Damon and Elena when they kiss each other for the first time. However, we can’t ignore the chemistry between Tyler and Caroline either.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is a little older and is somewhat similar to Élite. Gossip Girl is set in an expensive private school in the Upper East Side in New York. The main characters are teenagers Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, who are both obscenely rich. Serena leads a life filled with booze, alcohol, and drugs, and she has many different sexual contacts in the show. Blair is mainly looking for love, most notably with the love of her life Chuck Bass. Their lives are extensively discussed on a website called Gossip Girl. The hottest scene? Everyhing involving Chuck.

The L Word

The L Word consists of six series with no less than 97 love scenes in total. The show revolves around a group of lesbian friends in West Hollywood. The best thing about The L Word is that it was the first TV show that explicitly focussed on the lives of lesbian women. There are various main characters, like the long-term couple Tina and Bette, womanizer Shane, who is afraid of commitment, Jenny, who just starts discovering her feelings for women, Dana, who is afraid to come out, and bisexual Alice, who is the centre of the group.
