Column: Born to Sparkle

Initially, she wasn’t really looking forward to the holiday season. Last year was the first year without a partner and she underestimated what that would do to her, how it would make her feel. She thought it would be just a couple of days, which she packed with social obligations, lots of food and even more wine. But the holiday season hadn’t even started properly yet when she sensed it was going to be a very long month.

And so, this year, she decided to do things differently. At the end of October, she started therapy, not because of a specific issue, but because she wanted to take care of herself. There wasn’t an immediate reason for her consultations, but with the memory of last year’s Christmas fresh in her mind, and the heartbreak she felt then, she thought it would do her well to take this opportunity to prepare for what is coming this holiday season, since she still doesn’t have a partner to celebrate this season’s festivities with.

At the end of November, she walked into the practice with a big smile on her face. She had set a goal for herself: she would devote this holiday season to herself, as an empowered sexual woman. A woman who is allowed to discover her sexual self, even without a partner.

She carried a bag with her, which was stuffed with gifts. She shamelessly bought herself all these amazing products at pabo.com. There was this beautiful red lace bodysuit, a satin dress for those lonely nights, massage oil that she would use herself, and four different sex toys. She brought them to our session, because she felt the need to share all of this with someone, and because she could use some explanation on how to use the gifts she bought herself.

She decided to make it her own little project, to empower her sexual self by herself. This way she would feel less alone than when she would just let the days pass. She was in need of a mission, a purpose, and after being in a relationship for over 20 years, without having any other sexual partners than her ex-husband, you might even say that this had to happen at some point.

This holiday season was going to be her season. Her season to discover her sexual and sensual self with all the pleasure, luxury, and gifts that are permitted during the holidays. Only this year, all the gifts are just for her.
