Shocking: buttock augmentations have gone up by almost 80%
We all know who Kim Kardashian is, and mostly because of her bum. She inspired us to embrace, rather than cover up, big buttocks. Since then, a big bum is an asset: just ask sister Kylie Jenner and rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B! Still, more and more ‘ordinary women’ are also interested in getting some more junk in the trunk. They use bum padding, they work out, and some turn to plastic surgery, like bum augmentation procedures.
Bum augmentations are hot
It’s quite shocking: since 2015, the number of buttock augmentations worldwide has increased by a staggering 80%. During a Brazilian butt lift, fat is removed from the abdomen or hips through liposuction. This fat is purified and then injected into the buttocks. During the procedure, you’re either given a local anaesthetic or you go under general anaesthesia. Afterwards, you go home with a chubby butt and a bill between €4,000 and €6,500. Although it’s a popular procedure, it’s also the cosmetic procedure that causes the most deaths afterwards. One in 3,000 operations results in death.
Big bums: a sign of fertility?
De Correspondent dived into the question: why do women want big buttocks? Large bums would be seen as a sign of fertility and a higher oestrogen level, making the woman seem extra fertile. Sufficient fat on one’s behind would provide a good supply of healthy fats for a potential foetus. Behavioural biologists agree that the hip-to-waist ratio is especially important for sexual attraction. The magic number for this is 0.7. In other words: waist size is 70% of hip size. This would – subconsciously – play a role in choosing a partner. While the breasts of Playboy models have gotten bigger and smaller over the years, and the models have gotten thinner, the hip-to-waist ratio has always been around 0.7. Having said that, of course it’s true that everyone has their personal preferences. And for many couples, appearance is much less important than character.
Big bums are a trend
The big buttocks trend doesn’t mean that women in Western countries are suddenly more aware of procreation – on the contrary, fewer babies are being born. A possible increase in perceived fertility doesn’t explain why the number of buttock augmentations has risen so sharply. According to the biology experts in the aforementioned article, the desire for large buttocks is simply a fashion phenomenon, just like thin eyebrows and Pamela Anderson’s large breasts were the trend in the 1990s. Influenced by more celebs who show their big buttocks on social media, an increasing number of women want to have a behind like that too.
Bum augmentations without the effort
Whether you have to pay a hefty price for an operation or spend ages training your glutes at the gym, it’s all possible. However, it can also be done a lot faster. There are all kinds of special push-up trousers with foam buttock padding. A push-up bra, but one for your backside, so to speak. And what about jeans with a lifting effect? You can also accentuate your buttocks with the lingerie below.
Sexy corset for a beautiful waist
By wearing a corset or bustier, you can try to achieve the magic hip-to-waist ratio. With this sexy lingerie, you can constrict your waist to get the desired size. However, remember that you don’t have to: even without a tiny waist, you’ll look amazingly seductive in your corset!
Underwear to emphasise your buttocks
Emphasise your buttocks with sexy underwear. There are all kinds of panties you can use to accentuate your behind. A thong, for example, will show off your buttocks in all their glory. A Brazilian or a hipster can also emphasize your bum, but still cover it a bit more. These panties are often made of elastic lace, which means they fit your body perfectly.
What do you think of the big bum trend? Would you be willing to get buttock augmentation too?
